EN.MUHAMMADIYAH.OR.ID, YOGYAKARTA – Students from Madrasah Mu’allimaat Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta earned international recognition after securing third place at the International Arabic Debate Competition, held in Selangor, Malaysia, from June 26–28, 2026.

The tournament featured 31 teams from several countries, divided into four groups during the preliminary stage. Mu’allimaat Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta was represented by a three-member team consisting of Safira Hana Azkia, Asyifa Khoirun Najwa, and Khoirunnisa Eka Nur Faizah, all senior high school students.

The team delivered an outstanding performance throughout the group stage, winning every debate advancing undefeated to the knockout rounds. Their consistency carried them to the semifinals, where they ultimately finished in third place.

According to Bella, the team’s mentor and debate coach, the achievement was the result of thorough preparation and disciplined training.

“The students prepared intensively for about a month under the guidance of their coaches,” Bella said. “They studied each debate motion carefully and worked hard to master the material.”

She noted that the competition was conducted entirely in Arabic. It requires participants not only to think critically but also to demonstrate a high level of language proficiency.

Commitment to Excellence

Amin Hasanah, M.Si., Vice Director IV for Student Development and Islamic Life, praised the students for bringing pride to both the institution and the country through their international achievement.

“We are very proud of the accomplishments of our Arabic debate team on the international stage,” Amin said. “We hope they will continue to excel in various fields, particularly in Arabic and English language competitions.”

The achievement adds to the growing list of international accomplishment by Madrasah Mu’allimaat Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta. The record reflects the school’s continued commitment to developing students who combine academic excellence and global competitiveness.
