EN.MUHAMMADIYAH.OR.ID, IRAN – Syafiq Mughni, Chairperson of the Muhammadiyah Central Board, represented Muhammadiyah during a condolence visit for the passing of Ayatollah Ali Khamenei in Mashhad, Iran, on Friday (10/7).
Syafiq joined an Indonesian delegation that included the Speaker of the People’s Consultative Assembly of the Republic of Indonesia, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, the President of Nahdlatul Ulama (PBNU), and Indonesia’s Ambassador to Iran.
On behalf of Muhammadiyah, Syafiq offered prayers for the deceased and expressed his condolences.
“We pray that the deceased truly passed away as a martyr. May Allah grants him forgiveness, and accepts all of his righteous deeds,” Syafiq said.
In addition to attending the funeral ceremony, Syafiq and the Indonesian delegation met with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, who thanked Indonesia for its expression of sympathy and solidarity.
Indonesia and Iran Reaffirm Commitment to Cooperation
The delegation also held talks with members of the Iranian Parliament. During the meeting, representatives from both Indonesia and Iran reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening cooperation in advancing the interests of their nations and the broader Muslim world.
Syafiq explained that all official meetings between the Indonesian delegation and Iranian officials took place at a hotel due to security considerations.
Following the passing of Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, the Professor of Islamic History expressed his hope that the Iranian people would continue to be inspired by the spiritual legacy and the leadership that embodied the prophetic values left behind by Ali Khamenei.
He also voiced optimism that Iran would emerge as a stronger nation and called on Muslim-majority countries to strengthen their unity in confronting injustice and rejecting the normalization of wrongdoing around the world.
